Hadassah Hadassah

Jewish American teenage girls have something new to smile about--and to read. Yaldah, a magazine for Jewish girls, by Jewish girls, is a snappy-looking, colorful work published by 14-year-old Leah Larson, an 8th grader at the Maimnides School in Brookline, Massachusetts.
Before beginning Yaldah, larson won 18 awards for her stories and artwork. But popular magazines for girls don't address jewish values, the soft-spoken Larson said. "If a girl wants to read about a singer who sings jewish songs, stories about jewish girls and Jewish holidays, then she can turn to Yaldah."
Word-of-mouth about Yaldah is spreading, especially among religiously observant teenagers, the magazine's primary audience. E-mails and new subscription orders are pouring in from Brooklyn, Denver, and as far away as Uruguay, London, and Japan. Topics covered in the winter 2005 issue00the magazine is published four times a year-- range from hashgacha pratis (divine providence) and the tsunami to tips on keeing your room clean.
Larson admits that she would work on Yaldah 24/7 if her parents didn't turn off the Internet connection at 8 P.M.
